1) Is this legitimate? These people are asking for personal documents. Yes, this is legitimate. Chapman-Kelly is an experienced audit firm who has handled similar processes before. They are well aware of the confidential, sensitive nature of the information they will receive and are obligated by their contract with KEHP to protect that information.
2) Why is KEHP doing this? KEHP has never performed a dependent audit. If there are people who are receiving benefits who should not be, that increases the cost of the plan for everyone. The audit is intended to protect the financial stability of the plan for everyone who is legitimately covered.
3) What if I don’t answer the inquiry? Your dependents will be dropped from the plan.
4) What if my circumstances are unusual and I don’t have the documents being requested? Provide as many of the requested documents as you can, and engage directly with the Chapman Kelly customer service personnel about your individual circumstances. 5) Is there an appeal process if my legitimate dependents are dropped? Yes. There will be an appeals process at the end of the audit for anyone who feels a dependent has been wrongfully dropped from KEHP. Chapman Kelly will prepare the appeals for consideration. The appeals committee will be comprised primarily of Department of Employee Insurance employees, who will make all of the decisions.
