JCTA’s HCR/Racial Justice Subcommittee is hosting a virtual panel discussion about culturally responsive school leadership and the disproportionate discipline of Black girls in public schools.

Join JCTA HCR/RJ Subcommittee Chair Katie Punsly as moderator with ColorBraveJCPS panelists Dr. Marcia Carmichael-Murphy, Dr. LaRhonda Mathies, and Dr. Erica Young for an evening of robust discussion.

About ColorBraveJCPS: ColorBraveJCPS was founded in 2017 by Dr. Marcia Carmichael-Murphy, Dr. LaRhonda Mathies, and Dr. Erica Young, who collaborated on their U of L dissertation studying the disproportionate discipline of Black girls in public schools and school principals’ roles in culturally responsive PBIS in urban, public education. Their findings highlight the importance of strengths-based approaches and racialized dialogues in education, with an intentional focus on amplifying the voices of Black girls.

When Can I Afford to Retire?

When Can I Afford to Retire?  No PD credit; snacks provided.  Presented by NEA member Benefits Representative Guy Kendall-Freas, this workshop aims to increase members’ awareness of their retirement system, their pension payout options, health care costs and more.  Participants will be able to determine if they are on the right track in their retirement preparations and, if not, what their options are, including sheltering severance pay and purchasable service credit options.  An overview of how the Government Pension Offset and Windfall Elimination Provisions (GPO/WEP) affect social security will also be provided. Wednesday, October 17, 4:30-6 p.m.
